#blahvsfood goes (yet again) to Bhatti Village
I know that Bhatti Village is no longer Goa’s best kept secret. It has traversed the journey from secret to buzzy sensation regarded as one of the best regional restaurants in India to a place whose buzz has been supplanted by newer places like Vinayak.
Through it all, the food hasn’t changed and remains as great as ever. An authentic representation of Goan Catholic food, cooked wonderfully. It still makes the best serradura in the world. It still does things like fried pigling and fish roe and the amazing rawa crusted fried whitebait or silverfish. Most amazingly though, it still has the capacity to surprise. I had a pork solantulem for the first time, made with kokum and garlic, sour and tart and full of flavour with sannas and I knew this was a dish I had to come back to. I also had a tender coconut chilli fry which was quite brilliant.
There are some changes. Bhatti is now on Instagram and instead of the venerable Patrick we were looked after by his impressive son Royston.
And Bhatti is no longer a buzzy find. Now it’s a true classic.
