Mysore Days with #blahvsfood

Here’s my list of Mysore recommendations for the people who wanted it all put together in one post…

  • Breakfast at Teju Mess. Eat those soft fluffy idlis, some ghee rice and some intense country cooking, both chicken and mutton. Easily the best meal I’ve eaten in Mysore.

  • - The doughnuts, tarts and breads at Sapa Bakery are all brilliant. My favourite Bakery in the country.

  • - For coffee and sheeshah, go to Sriringapatna and check out the surreal installations at Seed Cafe

  • - While you’re at Seed Cafe you should go across to Mayura and drift down the Cauvery on a coracle.

  • - If it’s just coffee you want, I really like Mimimal Cafe. I don’t know why. But there is something really cool about it’s minimalism.

  • - If you want a beer, go and order a beer at The Barge and go lie down on the grass watch the clouds drift by.

  • - Alternatively go and sit in the courtyard of the Metropole and listen to the birds or the sound of rain. And yes, please stay there as well.

  • - For a full on Andhra Thali, Shreedevi will remind you of what Nagarjuna used to be

  • - And yes, I’m not a huge fan but I guess Mylari Dosa is a must do.

  • - People say the other must do is Poojari Fish land as you leave Mysore. I disagree. Take a U turn and eat there on your way INTO Mysore. That way you can also get a beer to wash down that full bodied food.

  • - My other favourite place in Mysore (besides Sapa) is Bopy’s. Man this is the kind of place that every city needs. Whether you’re a couple or a family, young or old, this is the place where you will have your best memories of Mysore. Food. Drink. Vibe. Intimacy. Warmth. Everything is just perfect.

  • - Go take a morning run or an evening stroll along Kukkannahalli Kere, the beautiful lake in the heart of Mysore with a beautiful park and walking path around it. You’re as likely to see birds as at Ranganthittu but it’s a lot more magical

  • - Nasheman didn’t serve rice on Wednesday, which was the day I wanted to go, but I am reliably told that the Kabsa there is fantastic, with mutton that falls off the bone.

  • - For a more military style biryani and mutton chops Hanumanta Pulao is the place to go to.

Of course I’m leaving out a lot of places, but I do intend to go back and eat again so this list will only get better and more comprehensive. From what I understanding Sriringapatna alone has lots of food to explore so just keep waiting for the next #blahontheroad visit to Mysore.
